Testicular cancer

Testicular cancer is often diagnosed with imaging scans, such as ultrasound and pathology tests such as blood tests, although your doctor may use other techniques to identify the problem. You may also have more advanced tests to find out more about your cancer, if it’s spread and which treatments are likely to be most effective. Some of these tests are also used to assess how well your treatment is working.

We work with expert teams of surgeons who are specially trained in surgical removal of tumors in the testicles. Surgery is the first treatment option for almost all testicular cancer cases, including those that have spread. The most common testicular cancer procedure is radical inguinal orchiectomy, which is the removal of the affected testicle and spermatic cord. During this procedure, your surgeon makes a small incision in between between the pelvis and abdomen, and the gently pulls the cancerous testicle up through the opening. For more advanced cancers, you may also have the nearby lymph nodes removed, this can be done at the same time as a radical inguinal orchiectomy, or as a separate procedure called retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND).
